Strivers’ Row celebrates doers - those among us who are pursuing their passions, putting their talents to use and in turn, establishing new standards. Each quarter a cohort is featured, making the masses aware of their work and motivations, and providing information for how to support their success. Strivers are young, Black creatives, professionals and entrepreneurs of diverse areas of expertise, experiences and perspectives.
Strivers' Row is a community. There is great promise for lasting professional partnerships and friendships to be cultivated among those who are invited to join. A number of private events are hosted for Strivers along with opportunities to represent the community at public events.
THE HISTORIC DISTRICT
The stunning brownstones of Strivers’ Row are located on West 138th and West 139th Streets between Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard and Frederick Douglass Boulevard. Built between 1891 and 1893 with no amenity spared, the homes sat empty in the years following completion due to a refusal to sell to affluent Blacks. The decision was reversed in 1919. Black leaders, professionals and entertainers of the day soon moved in giving the district its nickname. The neighborhood received formal designation as St. Nicholas Historic District in 1967.
Brooklyn native Duclas Charles has always loved the energy and constant buzz of New York City. After graduating from Howard University in 2014 with his Doctor of Pharmacy, Duclas returned to his hometown to begin a career in pharmacy, and to continue building his event management and production business that he started while at Howard.
In October 2014, Duclas founded Paradime, a lifestyle brand for the young professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives and like-minded individuals who set the standard and raise the bar in everything they do, while finding time to appreciate and celebrate the blessings, accomplishments and successes that have come their way. Paradime's mission is to create opportunities to interact and build relationships through various lifestyle, culture and special events. This mission is what brought Duclas to Strivers' Row.
