TALK TO ME NICE: A DISCUSSION ON CROSS-CULTURAL COMMS

MIMCONNECT

Monday, May 20

6:30PM - 9:30PM

Anomaly - 536 Broadway

Talk To Me Nice is a discussion-based workshop tackling what communication and cultural awareness means for storytellers of color. What are the faux-pas of relationship building with colleagues of different backgrounds? How does internal rapport, understanding, and support impact the work? With competing priorities and client demands, what does it really mean to “do it for the culture?” There are more questions that need answers, but the goal is to identify where nuance really drives home the impact of feeling seen through colleagues, campaigns, and communication.

HABITUAL BE: DIFFERENT, NOT DEFICIENT

STRIVERS’ ROW

Tuesday, May 21

6PM - 8:30PM

TBA

A follow-up to Strivers’ Row’s Black History Month campaign that featured members and friends of the community using Ebonics to name their individual grinds and the contributions of Black people to the world. It was a deliberate decision to push the message that while Ebonics is different than Standard English, it is not a deficient means of communication. So how do we navigate a world where the way many Black people speak is often heavily stigmatized yet leveraged by brands and outsiders to acclaim? How do we create art that elevates its stature? How do we move to eradicate the impact of negative perceptions that begin in school and carry through careers? Let’s talk about it.
